Berlin, 28.2.1944 Beloved Mother, already three weeks have gone by since you are no longer with me, and it seems like an eternity to me. Life does not, as I previously thought, stand still; everything continues in the same old trot, i.e., nothing of much importance happens. I am with you in my thoughts not only at 8 in the morning and 8 in the evening, as we arranged, since not a minute goes by, when I don’t think about what you may be doing and how you are keeping. I pray to God a great deal that He will give you strength; hopefully you have an opportunity to take part in a Bible class. Today’s Bible reading is a great comfort: “I am come a light into the world, that whoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.” Hopefully you are among kind people; everyone is very kind to me. I am to eat each evening this week at the Eisl., because it is still not possible here at home. Ilse, who was here on 12.2. to see you, travelled in the end to Cologne and went to Aunt Eugenchen, who immediately invited me over by telegram. I won’t go for the time being, in order to protect the apartment. Aunt Hedwig asked me over yesterday afternoon and was very kind. As she says, she feels very lonely since your departure. I am to send you greetings from her, as well as from Anneliese, Marga, Trautchen. Have you received my 2 packages? I intend to send 3 each month; hopefully that is possible. We wouldn’t want to overwork the mail office, in case they suspend services. — Are you keeping busy? I think that is very important. Did you take enough warm clothes with you? Ruth K. received a card today from 12.2. Hopefully I will hear from you soon and that you are keeping relatively well. Herbert still wants to come, and will stay with me.
