Lady Nancy Astor's maiden speech to Parliament. Astor came to England from Virginia and married Waldorf Astor who became MP for Plymouth. When he vacated his seat to take a place in the Lords, Lady Astor campaigned for it in the subsequent by-election and was victorious. This copy of her first speech titled A Problem for Women which advocated stricter drinking times for pubs to protect women and children from abusive partners.
