Dearest Mother,
I know you will be pleased to hear that we are to go to Paris and that our hospital is to be the Claridge's Hotel on the Champs Elysées. We are to start on next Tuesday morning. It is a great sign of confidence on the part of the military authorities as a week ago we were told that wherever we went it would not be Paris. Our equipment and personnel are practically ready and yet there seems to be an endless number of details to attend to. We are just recovering from our second typhoid inoculation!

It wd be an immense comfort to my mind if you wd arrange to have Gladys at Alde House until Xmas [Christmas]. I think it wd suit her to come and you wd find her quite an agreeable companion. It will be dull for her alone. If you asked her to come it cd be a temporary arrangement until her boys return at Xmas and you cd pay her at the rate of £100. LA
