The play by Ben Jonson is set during Bartholomew Fair, which was one of London's pre-eminent summer fairs. Both a trading event for cloth and other goods and a pleasure fair, the four-day event drew crowds from all classes of English society.
TN Theatre’s production, directed by Rod Wissler and designed by Bill Haycock, filled the theatre with a riot of colour and character, mixing styles and period to evoke the tumultuous life of the fair, with Michael McCaffrey as the pedlar Lanthorne Leatherhead.
The wool cloth overcoat was encrusted with plastic toys and novelties.
