This large pichwai for Gopashtami, the festival that marks the elevation of Krishna from a young herder of calves to a full cowherd, is now set in a silk and cotton supportive mount and depicts the Shrinathji idol on an altar at the centre. He is flanked by two gopis with offerings and three gopas on each side, and surrounded by a large herd of festival-decorated cows. The scene is set in a lush garden above a blossoming lotus filled pond at the bottom, with an upper register showcasing a rocky topography, populated with deer, goats and monkeys and a temple pavilion complex visible in the distance. A silk and cotton support mount, forms a later addition to the pichwai.
Detail of the original painting, sans a later added silk mount and cotton trim, from a pichwai for the occasion of Gopashtami.
