This painting of Bryn Athyn Cathedral was made by artist John Pike, who lived and worked in Woodstock, New York. The artist owned the John Pike Watercolor School in Woodstock near Glen Tonche, Raymond and Mildred Pitcairn’s summer home on Tonche Mountain. The painting originally hung in the dining room at Glen Tonche. On September 5, 1958, a fire had occurred at Glen Tonche and it was the rebuilding of the dining room that provided the opportunity to have Pike paint a large-scale view of Bryn Athyn Cathedral. As with all of his artistic projects, Raymond Pitcairn was heavily involved, providing Pike with photographs, advice, and critiques throughout the process. (See External Link.)
