According to the document of the Tachibana family, this painting was presented to the 14th head of the family, Count Tomoharu, in the sixtieth anniversary of his birth in 1917, from well-wishers. The creator, Yamashita Chikusui, was a locally-born painter from Chikugo Province. He aimed to become a professional painter of flowers and birds. However, he caught a severe strain of influenza in Manchuria, where he immigrated, and passed away at the age of 35.
