ca. 1760-1770

Musée Nissim de Camondo

Musée Nissim de Camondo
Paris, France

These biscuit porcelain statuettes – “The Young Supplicant” (also called “The Protest”) and “The Gardener” (or “The Dancer”), modeled at the Vincennes factory by the sculptor Pierre Blondeau around 1749-1752 – stand on fluted bases. Based on prints by François Boucher, they are part of the famous “Enfants Boucher” series which remained popular after the factory moved to Sèvres in 1756. Madame Du Barry owned an identical pair of candelabra delivered by the marchand-mercier Simon-Philippe Poirier in the early 1770s.
