This object was used in offerings to the gods. This palanquin is dated from the Republican era and features gold lacquer and carvings of figures and flowers. The carving technique is exquisite. The top is shaped like a pavilion and an image of a god is inside. The sides of the palanquin are decorated with people, flowers, dragons, and lions. Palanquins are typically used during the procession stage in large-scale, popular sacrificial rituals. Several people carried the palanquin on their shoulders in a welcoming procession, representing the deity moving among the people and bringing peace to ordinary people.
