This object was used in offerings to the gods. This palanquin dates from the late Qing dynasty, and is decorated with gold lacquer, wood carving and a phoenix motif. The top of the palanquin is shaped like a pavilion and the main body features phoenix and flower designs as well as gold lacquer and openwork carving. The middle is decorated with gold lacquer, wood carving, and paintings with gold accents. The pole ends are shaped like lion heads. Palanquins are typically used in large-scale, popular sacrificial rituals, in a procession. Several people carried the palanquin on their shoulders in a welcoming procession, representing the deity moving among the people and bringing peace to ordinary people.
