Palenque is one of the top destinations of Chiapas and one of the best examples of Maya architecture in all of Mexico. The Palace of Palenque was probably the ceremonial and administrative centre of the city in the 7th and 8th centuries AD.

This is an Oval Palace Tablet from House E of the Palace at the ancient Maya site of Palenque. Lady Sak K'uk' offers the royal headdress (as symbol of rulership) to her son, K'inich Janaab Pakal. The object is a 19th century cast from the original, part of the Maudslay Collection at the British Museum.
