Palenquera at Rest

"In 2024, my parents and I visited my mother’s home country of Colombia, specifically Cartagena. Palenqueras are a well known sight in the town squares. These women travel from San Basilio de Palenque to the tourist town of Cartagena daily. They wear colorful dresses and fruit baskets, encouraging tourists to snap photos of them for a fee.

Cartagena gets very hot midday. This palenquera was resting in the shade during the high noon hour, as I walked past her. It was a pause from her work and yet she still allowed me to capture a portrait of her at ease, enjoying a moment of pause."
