Palmer Ley's is 50 acres of former arable field purchased by Oxford Botanic Garden and Arboretum in 2006. Approximately 20 acres of this has been planted with 13,000 native tree species, including oak, lime, ash, hornbeam, beech, yew and native sorbus. The remaining 30 acres (named 'Pylon Meadow') have been set aside as the focus of a restoration effort to produce a species-rich meadow similar to that of the Arboretum's adjacent semi-natural grassland.
