Panathenaic amphora

The main image is a figurative scene typical of Panathenaic amphorae: the goddess Athena in the guise of Promachos (“front-line warrior”) between two columns surmounted by cockerels, with an inscription recalling the competitions that took place during the Panathenaic Games in Athens. On the other side is a racing quadriga (chariot).
