This panel with 6 multi-colored ceramic tiles represents the different types of vessel of the 16th and 18th centuries, both in the Mediterranean (such as galleys) and in the Atlantic (such as galleons).
This type of tile was fitted in public places such as mansions, palaces, hospitals, and convents, as well as in ordinary houses, on hearths, in kitchens, and around wash basins. Due to their robust nature, they are also used outdoors, such as in fountains, cloisters, and on signs bearing street names.
The panel is Catalan in origin. The origins of this type of multi-colored Catalan tile lie in the tradition of popular engraving and were inspired by drawings known as aucas.
