Panoramic view of the main section of the town of Broken Hill, NSW, Australia. Man-made mullock heaps can be seen behind the town centre (the mullock heaps are the "hills" that stretch almost the full width of this image). These were built from the waste rock mined from the so-called "Line of Lode", a giant orebody that has sustained three major and several smaller mines that have provided the lifeblood of the town for over a century. Over 800 workers lost their lives working the mines of the Line of Lode; a Miner's Memorial dedicated to their memory can be seen at the top of the left end of the mullock heap.
