Panorama No. 5 triptych tells our contemporary urban environment with an image that seems to oscillate between that of a computer screen on tilt and the night vision of the lights of a city at rush hour. To create this work, representative of his painting practice since 2005, Liu Wei created a color drawing on the computer, which his studio assistants later transferred to black and white canvas. Following the original scheme, each color of the canvas was inserted with carefully blended oil paints. Due to the differences between digital and physical media, there is a discrepancy between the original plan outlined on the computer and its pictorial execution. Liu Wei has chosen to highlight this distance while maintaining a dense and opaque mixture.
