A Meissen Commedia dell'Arte figure of Pantalone, an elderly Venetian merchant. Inspired by Jacques Callot (17th C) engraving of Pantalone, this model is by J. J. Kändler, circa 1741-42, Pantalone leans forward, his hands holding back his cloak to reveal his red costume, a sword hanging from his waist. Pantalone stands on a mound base applied with foliage. It was first conceived as a group figurine: Pantalone and an actress.
