This is a cupboard used for storing food and dinnerware, which is usually placed in a pantry or a kitchen. Since it stores heavy porcelain and brass tableware, it is made with solid wood of high density. These cupboards have large hinged doors and strong vertical and horizontal wooden bars, imbuing a sense of significant heft. Some cupboards had no frontal wooden panels on the left and right sides of the doors, and four door plates were connected with hinges for easy storage. The two-tiered cupboard shown here is made of sawleaf zelkova and pine wood. The body consists of hinged doors and frontal wooden panels, with long legs. The vertical and horizontal wooden bars of the top board are linked using dovetail joints, as with wooden rice chests. The door panels use hinges so that they can be separated from the body.
