The story of "Snow White and the Sevens Dwarfs" has entertained children for several centuries. The story began as a folk tale known in Europe from as far west as Ireland to as far east as Asia Minor. Recognizing the story's popularity, the Brothers Grimms included it in their 1819 book of fairy tales. Other versions followed. In the mid-1930, Walt Disney chose the tale as the first of his company's feature-length animated films. Released in 1937, the film supplanted other tellings of the tale in American popular culture. Disney keeps the film in front of successive generations of children: "Snow White" has been rereleased in theaters dozens of times in the past 80 years, and since 1994, the film is available for home use too.
