From London Midland & Scottish Railway Collection. Paperboy delivering newspapers to passengers through a London & North Western Railway train window, about 1905.
Papers could be ordered in advance and were delivered to the passengers in the train.
Passengers often read on long train journeys and the coming of the railways encouraged more people to read. Stations sold books and newspapers and some stations even had libraries.
