Papyrus (dream of Nectanebo)

This Greek papyrus was found in a set of archives in Saqqara. It contains a historical narrative about the last native pharaoh of Egypt, Nectanebo II (360-343 BC), relating a dream that came to the pharaoh a few days before the Persian invasion that would end his reign. In the dream, the Egyptian god Onuris complained that Nectanebo had still not finished building his temple. As soon as he woke up, the pharaoh gave a sculptor a large fee to complete the work straight away. However, the sculptor decided to have a glass of wine first, and then he met a beautiful girl. Just when things are getting exciting, the writer, Apollonios, breaks off his narrative, draws a small figure, and leaves the rest of the papyrus blank.
