Park Hill in Sheffield was designed by a group of architecture graduates from Durham University, in northeast England, including Alison and Peter Smithson, Jack Lynn and Gordon Ryder. The first residents moved in at the start of 1961, and by June that year the Sheffield Telegraph had declared it “a paradise for children. Built between 1957 and 1961, this mixed high-density and controversial housing development was planned and designed by Sheffield Corporation City Architect's Department led by J. L. Womersley.
