Park House was built in 1876 for GM Swinhoe, the chief medical officer of the Great Western Railway (GWR). As well as a domestic dwelling, it was also a surgery with consulting rooms. Later, it was used as a medical examination centre where prospective employees came to be examined before obtaining work with the GWR .
