Parker festooned ceramic rim

1500

Musée de l'Archéologie de l'Ontario

Musée de l'Archéologie de l'Ontario
London, Canada

An elaborate ceramic style characterized by undulating rows of chevrons between horizontal bands has been recovered at the Lawson site in small numbers. This style is rare in the London area, but regularly found on sites further west and into Ohio. Its presence in London’s archaeological record is another suggestion of trade between the Lawson village residents and other Indigenous communities. The Lawson site is a fortified 16th century Indigenous site located at the confluence of Medway River and Snake Creek. The site has been known to archaeologists since the mid-1800s and is now an Ontario designated heritage site and part of the Museum of Ontario Archaeology’s grounds.
