Highlights include the dry bed of the Vaza-Barris river, at the height of the Vale das Quixabeiras. The river guaranteed the survival of Canudos, even in such an inhospitable region. During droughts, its bed served as a natural road and pasture for the herds; during the floods, it quickly brought muddy waters that occupied the bed, causing the water to leak, a fact that determined its name. On the left, the Church of Santo Antônio and, in the background, the houses located to the north of Canudos.
