It is a migratory bird that occupied Central America and eastern North America. They migrated in large herds from south to north during spring and from north to south during winter. They developed strong pectoral muscles due to its fast speed. However, they were overfished because their meat were considered delicious. It is estimated that more than 5 billion lived in all of North America, making it the once most numerous bird in the world.
