The Patachitra depicts the popular folklore of Manasa Mangal Kavya. The painting shows Behula, the newly-wed wife of Chand's youngest son Lakhindar reach the abode of the Gods and win back the life of her husband and the other six sons of Chand Sadagar. The sons were killed by Goddess Manasa as a revenge for Chand refusing to worship her. Behula promised Manasa that Chand Sadagar would worship her, making the Goddess bow to her love for her husband, her strength of character, limitless courage and deep devotion. Behula represents an exemplary Bengali woman. She not only demonstrates a woman's ideal love for her husband, but also her strength and courage.
