Patient Kyahi, Principal of Sake Elementary School in front of the blackboard in his mud-filled classroom. On Thursday, October 1, 2020, heavy rains and a strong wind caused the Mutahyo River to overflow into the Masisi territory. Population movements between Sake, a village located 27 km from the city of Goma, North Kivu province in DRC, and the surrounding localities are made difficult by the destruction of the Kihira bridg with 3 health areas affected (Mitumbala, Kimoka and Kaduki). Several villages and farming areas were flooded. 80% of the fields are partially or completely destroyed. The population is thus deprived of harvest, but also of production capacity whilst many livestock and food stocks have also been washed away.
