This thangka painting depicts Situ Panchen Chokyi Jungne (1699-1774) as Patron of the Avadana Set “The Wish-granting Vine Series of One Hundred and Eight Morality Tales.” The painting is an active narrative of the painting process: artists in the lower-left corner sit with their canvases stretched and brushes dipped in paint ready to begin work. Also pictured is the blank canvas to be filled in with an inscription commemorating the commissioning of the set. Its absence signifies that this thangka is one painting in a copy of the original set.
