This is surely one of the most unexpected patterns created in the 17th century, although no example applied in situ is known. It came from the so-called "Fundo Antigo" or Old Deposit of the National Azulejo Museum and the motif it represents is surprising for the modernity of its diagonal lines in two contrasting colours. The theme is inspired on the carpentry work on windows and cupboards simulating wooden lattice boards fixed with nails. Despite its originality there is an earlier azulejo made in the first half of the 16th century, still using the aresta technique (MNAz, Inv. 108 Az), but which has not been able to achieve the same three-dimensional effect.
