Paul Edmunds was a Social Fabric artist-in-residence exploring felt hosted by Krafthaus, a home furnishings design company. Paul knew nothing about felt when he arrived his first day at Krafthaus, and chose the wrong time to ask the busy designer/owner what felt was, what she was making. "A throw" came the terse reply. A throw refers to an occasional blanket but Paul misunderstood it to be something to be thrown over the shoulder. He reasoned that felt must therefore be something light, possibly like seersucker fabric. For those who know felt, "light" is almost the opposite description, for it is classically thick, flat and opaque. Paul's first felting attempt, made under this happy mistake, has indeed yielded "seersucker felt", light on the skin and allowing diffusion of light.
