National WWI Museum and Memorial
Kansas City, United States

In 2004 construction started on a new state-of-the-art museum and research center underneath the existing memorial, opening in 2006 to national acclaim.

Visitors enter the Museum’s Main Gallery via a glass bridge suspended over a field of poppies. Each of the 9,000 poppies represents 1,000 combatants (9 million in total) who lost their lives in the conflict.
