The Summer Palace in Beijing, built in 1750 and restored in 1886 after destruction in 1886, is a masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design. It includes traditional halls and pavilions in the Imperial Garden, designed by Qing emperor Qianlong to balance man and nature. Damaged again during the Boxer Rebellion in 1900, it was restored.
