"In the XVIII century terracotta, nearly always polychrome, became the mangers material per excellence that usually joined a large number of types and popular customs. Little by little these sculptures won importance in the manger ensembles and some groups and single figures were more popular.

Due, mainly, to the picturesque taste typical of the Romanticism, in the XIX century a lot of these figures became independent to be commercialized in a separate way, as they did with porcelain little figures since the XVIII century.

These sculptures has a great success mainly among wealthy classes and travellers that visited Granada, where during all the XIX century and part of the XX produced a lot of popular personalities and of saints, as the ones of the Romantic museum of Sitges."
