Prahova County was the transit zone between Wallachia and Transylvania, renowned for its plum tree orchards and plum brandy. Vălenii de Munte was, at one time, full of pubs and inns that animated the life of inhabitants and travelers from both an economic and cultural point of view.
The monument, stemming from the visit of Bătrâni, was built around 1850 by a family of traders (Zamfirescu) who exploited it until 1952 as store, pub and home. It was transferred to the museum in 1988.
The monument was a hybrid formed of two wings in the shape of the letter L. The main wing, which lends the complex style and personality, is the pub that consists of a big hall built on top of a stone basement and has a hall with figured boards and carved poles along the long facade and a little tower on the short facade above the entrance to the basement with figured yoke.
Along the hall and the tower, on the inside, there is a bench for the customers of the pub, with the rail leaning 15 degrees outwards.
The living quarters, at a square angle to the pub, have the characteristics of all houses in the region, with three rooms, a median hall, a big room (for holidays) and a small room (kitchen).
Both constructions are made of beech and oak logs, united with round locks at the ends and plastered inside and outside. The roof has four slopes with fir shingles and enameled pots at corners to prevent rainwater to seep in as well as for decoration. Details of the house include: the corner entrance, the double door and two big, symmetrical windows on each side of the door, arched at the upper part and divided into nine sections. Up and down sliding of the windows permits the serving of clients directly in the hall through the windows.
The pub and the small room have pub furniture (copies of the originals) and the hall has been closed to form a food pantry. The big room has been endowed with modern devices as the monument continues to serve the public of the museum.
