Hans Sebald Beham, who was a generation younger than Dürer, made a specialty of miniature engravings. Perhaps realizing that Dürer was an impossible artist to imitate successfully, he applied Dürer's engraving style to an exceptionally small format. The technical virtuosity needed to do this would have delighted collectors and connoisseurs.
