Peasant with Purse

Like the ‘burdened’ peasant, this wooden figure also comes from the town hall in Überlingen. He pays his dues or taxes for the goods he has borrowed in the form of money. In some ways, the depiction shows respect for the peasants, though this seems to be ironically undercut by the figure’s facial expression and clothing.
