Influenced initially by Pieter van Laer ('Bamboccio'), Wouwerman evolved a personal style, mostly painting battle and hunting scenes. F. Duparc of the Mauritshuis suggests a date in the second half of the 1650s for this painting.
Work Notes: Frederik Duparc (letter 18 Aug. 1997) of the Mauritshuis dates to 2nd half 1650s (letter on file, 1997).A very similar work was with Richard Reynolds, Leighton Hall, Carnforth, Lancs., in 1983.
