In 1889, George Rummel had the Peermont Hotel constructed on the beach between 33rd and 34th Street.
Opening just months after the Hotel Avalon, the Peermont distinguished itself by remaining open year-round. Its success was short-lived however, as it burnt to the ground in February 1896. From the Dolores Phillips Collection.
