From the Artist: These portraits document my meetings with family, friends and community members during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the months of living with social distancing guidelines continued, I felt
that there was a turning point, somewhere around August 2020, when people became comfortable being photographed with a mask. This image reflects the changes in the vocabulary of face to face interactions, when scientific evidence proved that wearing a face covering is a clear sign that we care for each other.
Peilin and I met at the riverfront near sunset for a social visit, the first time we had been together since February. In normal times we see each other weekly at our Tai Chi Chuan class.
