Pendant: Ram's Head (Left View- Main View)

Unknown

The J. Paul Getty Museum

The J. Paul Getty Museum
Los Angeles, United States

The pendant is fashioned in the shape of a ram's head, with a curly fleece and large curved horns with incised ridges. At the base the edge is recessed, likely for insertion into a now missing metal mount. A pair of perforations contain the remains of a metal (silver?) wire or pins. This is one of three similar pendants (including 76.AO.83 and 77.AO.81.7) that may have belonged to a single original, based on similarities of style, technique, and condition.
