Pendiente de hueso en forma de reptil

Unfortunately, the piece is incomplete as it does not have the head. It represents a crouching saurian, perhaps a lizard. Its extremities are bended and the extended tail shows the scales in relief. Along the abdomen, there are five glyphic sections with full bodies in pairs worked in fine relief; each of them represents mythical characters and animals. The arrangement of the figures is similar to stele from Quirigúa and Copán. The incisions have remains of a red pigment and the tail has two perforations. The piece was carved in a bone, probably from tapir, and comes from the state of Chiapas, somewhere in the Usumacinta basin.Dra. Federica Sodi MirandaColaboradores: Arqlgo.
