This perfume burner (known in French as a cassolette) is attributed to the French bronze-worker and sculptor Pierre-Philippe Thomire, who received his mastership as a bronze founder in 1772. Thomire trained in the studio of the sculptor Pierre Gouthière (1732-1813) before setting up his own workshop about 1775. Indeed, the design for this perfume burner is based on similar pieces made by Gouthière.
