Athina, Greece

A helmet of Persian descent, of the Kulah khud type, with an elaborate aventail, made of thin metal chain. It bears a crown consisting of a sharply pointed spike. The vertical cylindrical bar, which acts as a guard for the head and nose, bears, on both the upper and lower sides, the characteristic, richly decorated leaf-shaped plates. Attached to each side of the skull were holders used to mount feathers, small banners or other decorative, repulsive or religious symbols. The entire headpiece has rich perforated decoration and partial gold-plating.
