The function of the work building was to find work for the families of reservists. The city had received free use of a pawnshop premises. In this building, people sewed, wove and washed clothes to fill orders. In October 1914, over 50 women worked there, earning 80-100 kopecks a day. At the same time, the work building also served as an employment agency helping the women to find work elsewhere.
