    Colonial Secretary’s Office Sydney 21st March 1848. Sir, I do myself the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 9th instant No. 159, transmitting a Petition addressed to Her Majesty by certain Inhabitants of Port Phillip, praying for the early separation of that District from New South Wales, and deprecating the appreciation thereto of the proposed new form of Constitution for the Australian Colonies.
