Description: The painting has been cited as the work of Tintoretto since the first inventories of the Archbishop's Gallery (1638, 1650), as well as in the 18th and 19th century guidebooks. The work has been dated to the beginning of the painter’s career, from around 1546 to 1547. At this stage of his life, Jacopo Robusti moved towards more narrative forms, developing his dramatization of the subject, which is one of the most characteristic elements of his work.
