Philodendron melanochrysum

Inhotim

Inhotim
Brumadinho MG, Brazil

Endemic to the moist forests of Colombia, the black gold does not tolerate low temperatures and must have its foliage sprinkled with water on dry days. Adult plants of this species have large thick leaves, of blackened-green color and velvety texture. As for the young leaves, they are very different, for they are smaller, wider, and tanned-green. For a long time, it was believed that the young and adult forms were of different species since the adult form only develops after several years of cultivation.
