Philodendron is the second most diverse genus of the arum family, with around 482 species, second only to the Anthurium genus. It presents its richest diversity in understory tropical forest, but it can also occur in other habitats, including swamps, rocky outcrops, and semiarid regions. It is usually employed in landscaping as an ornamental plant due to the beauty of its leaves.
